Visual Outcomes Following Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery for Phacomorphic Glaucoma
نویسنده
چکیده
Aims: To evaluate intraocular pressure (IOP) control, visual prognosis and complications following manual small incision cataract surgery among eyes with phacomorphic glaucoma. Material and Methods: This prospective, non-randomized interventional consecutive case series included 10 eyes of 10 patients with phacomorphic glaucoma who presented to Kasr El-Aini Hospital between March 2010 and April 2011. All patients underwent slit-lamp bio-microscopy, applanation tonometry and gonioscopy of the other eye to rule out angle closure. Small incision cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation was performed in all affected eyes. Complete ophthalmic examination was done at each follow-up visit. Results: A total of 10 eyes with phacomorphic glaucoma were included in this study. The preoperative mean IOP was 38.2± 12.3mmHg and mean IOP at last follow-up was 14.7 ± 2.4mmHg. There was a statistically significant difference between IOP at presentation and IOP at last follow-up ( p< 0.001). No significant intraoperative complications were noted. The final postoperative best corrected visual acuity was 20/40 or better in all patients. Conclusion: Manual small incision cataract surgery is safe and effective in controlling IOP and achieving good functional visual acuity with minimal complications in the management of phacomorphic glaucoma in developing countries.

PURPOSE To compare the outcomes of cataract surgery alone versus combined cataract surgery with trabeculectomy in eyes with phacomorphic glaucoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS In a retrospective comparative case series, 126 eyes of phacomorphic glaucoma presenting within 4 weeks of onset between 1993 and 2012, with at least 6 months of postoperative follow-up were included. Group 1 included 63 eyes ...

Method: Cataract surgery was performed after controlling the intraocular pressure in patients presenting with acute phacomorphic glaucoma. Intraocular lenses were inserted in the bag after conventional extracapsular cataract extraction. Patients with minimum follow up of one year were analyzed for the study. Corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure and any complications of surgery were rec...

Introduction: Manual small-incision cataract surgery with trabeculectomy is now an acceptable option in the surgical management of combined cataract and glaucoma uncontrolled with maximum tolerated medical therapy. Objective: To compare the results and complications of combined manual small-incision cataract surgery (SICS) and posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL) implantation with trabecu...
متن کاملThe Use of Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Capsulotomy Is Challenging in Patients With Phacomorphic Glaucoma.
To the Editor: Acute phacomorphic glaucoma occurs secondarily to an increased anteroposterior lens thickness that narrows the iridocorneal angle. Optic neuropathy is preventable with early recognition and treatment of the disease, but a sudden rise in intraocular pressure (IOP) can lead to irreversible visual loss in the affected eye.1-3 We evaluated the efficacy of femtosecond laser–assisted c...
